"I made food for you. I am coming."
These simple words he texted, warmed my heart.
Man cooking is not a big deal but in this world it is. In my world it is. Growing in a family where my mother had to do every little work from cooking food to feed everyone than eat her's. From childhood, I have found women working around and not only that but feeding their family sacrificing everything. And people never appreciate the efforts. Not any people but even my dad never appreciated my mother. Rather he would shout at her,"tum krti hi kya ho?"
I wish I could answer him, shout at him. I wish I could speak. But I never had the courage.
Rubbing my hands, I moved away from the bed and went outside, sitting on the sofa.
And soon the bell rang. He was here. I smiled and went to open the door for him.
"You are here?" I spoke as I scanned him, he was wearing black t-shirt and pyjamas, that looked perfect on him. My eyes drifted from his clothes to him. And like always he was looking at me. His brown eyes shone, and a smile played on his face.
Oh god. That smile.
"Yes, mam. I didn't had to lie this time." He said, stepping inside the apartment.
I laughed,"so she scolded you?"
" A little bit."
He sighed and dropped on the sofa, then patted the seat beside him. I followed and sat close to him while pecking his cheeks.
"I love this." He groaned softly.
"I know, Advik." I whispered.
"Let's make a deal?"
"What deal?" I asked.
"If you love my cooking, I would get 1000 kisses on my cheeks?"
My eyes widened,"1000 kisses? Hup! I will only give you 10."
"That' s so less." He cried.
"You seem too confident in your cooking." I teased.
"That I am, Mrs.. Bansal." He said while he opened the lid of the tiffin that I didn't notice before.
Rolling my eyes, i leaned closer," by the way what did you make?"
"Try it, love." He spoke casually.
But my heart raced, butterflies erupted inside my stomach.
How could he speak it casually?
"Give me." I spoke as I looked down at my lap.
"Apke liye hi laya hu, apko hi dunga." He said as he took one spoon of the food and fed me. From his hands.
( I bought it for you, i will give it to you.)
.The warmth spread through my mouth - buttery, cheesy, soft. Each grain of rice melted perfectly, like it had been stirred with care, not rushed. It was so delicious.
“You made this?” I whispered.
He smiled, resting his chin on his palm. “who would, mrs. Bansal?"
"Oh, god.. it's so tasty. I never had something like this."
"Thank you." He said, his voice low, teasing. "And don't worry after marriage, i will cook you various dishes for you."
"I am honoured." I smiled,"do you like cooking?"
"I love it. I love to cook, to create something great and feed it to people. It just soothes my heart." He spoke, his eyes sparkling.
"You should become a chef."
"I wish I could." He sighed.
"You told me you didn't like working in the company, how about you open your own restaurant?"
"Ritika, I wish it was that easy. My parents would never agree on that." He looked at me, his eyes now saddened.
My heart ached," I know it's not advik. But if your heart wants to do that, do it." I comforted him.
"I would think of it." He whispered as his head dropped on my shoulder.
My hands found his hair on their own, i shuffled his soft silky hairs.
"I will be always by your side. No matter what your decision would be." I whispered.
"Thank you, ritika."
"By the way, what you even made. I don't know the name of this dish. But it's so delicious." I laughed trying to lighten the situation.
He laughed," it's risotto. An Italian dosh."
"What? Oh god. You even know how to cook Italian?"
"Hnji." He smiled.
"Oh god, what's wrong with you? You know how to cook and still survive on maggi?"
He laughed, shaking his head. “Well, I learned cooking properly in college. My mother never allowed me to cook before that.”
He sighed softly. “And about Maggi… I never really have time to cook for myself. Even when I do, I just- I don’t feel like it. I love cooking for others, watching them eat what I made and enjoy it. That’s what makes me happy.”
I nodded,"it's okay. Now you can feed me. I would eat it and enjoy every second of it."
"Would love to. But you didn't fulfilled the deal." He spoke.
"Aghhh." I groaned dramatically.
"Mrs. Bansal, I want kisses."
“You’re such a kid,” I murmured, leaning in.
He chuckled, but his laughter quieted when my lips brushed his cheek. One, two, three... I counted softly as I kissed him ten times, his skin warm under my lips, his giggle breaking between each one.
It was so perfect, so lovely. To have him beside me.
" I love every second with you." He whispered as he pulled me towards him, hugging me sidewards.
"And it doesn't feel scary now, knowing that it's you who's gonna be my husband." I whispered, hugging him back.
